You are running a campaign in the Netherlands, but are you being understood?

Dutch Travel Media recently took a sample of the websites of 25 large ski resorts in Austria and other German-language holiday destinations. All Travel and Visitor Bureaus involved are or were active in the Dutch market with online campaigns, with the aim of course to achieve conversion to bookings. However, it turned out that only four of the eleven Dutch landing pages met even the lowest requirements of the Dutch consumer. By that simple failing, those online campaigns had missed an opportunity to achieve the result they were after.

Our conclusion is that people are too often unaware of cultural differences and of the specific wishes of the Dutch holiday maker. It is difficult to assess what is appealing and what is not. The communications budget ends up not being spent as wisely as it could be.
